April 2009
Inspired by the phenomenon of bioluminescence – the emission of light by living organisms – the sculptures of Balluminescence were designed to mimic the structure and behavior of various bioluminescent creatures.
The Comb Jelly was modeled after the ctenophore, a small marine animal characterized by having eight rows of cilia along its body that scatter light to create a moving rainbow pattern.
